I’ve met several people from Mills College, and all of them are crazy and weird in almost a different way than us. very curious. I’d like to meet more of them. (almost all of the ones I have met also attended CalArts, so that’s “sample contamination.”

Topic Begin: PRESENTATION AND IMAGE
there are several reasons but ONE of them is
when people TALK and ACT like professionals, and yet, in truth, they turn out to be full of shit, and a shit-ton less competent than me, who despises talking and acting professional.
I was deeply offput, (sp!) more than once, when I saw some percussionist long ago, many many years, who presented themselves like that, and as principle percussion of so and so symphony (a tiny tiny one in a tiny tiny town, it turns out.)
I was frankly “offended” by them, and the musical director, when they allowed this person to play the same pieces I had played, and they played them way less well than I did.
I was more offended that they presented themselves in this way when they were not deserving of it.

I wonder how much of “the root” of my revulsion against normalcy, presentation, image, and professionalism, this particular incident played.
(it can’t have been all that much, the roots of those things in me go back to the 70s.)

shopping in hollywood. scored GOTTERDAMMURUNG, SOLTI RING, on Vinyl. used, but in excellent shape. now Siegfried…
amazing that Amoeba music even EXISTS still…
(turns out it was a Japanese release of the Solti Ring, the liner notes are German and Japanese (but who needs em, I know what it says.)
Good Soldier Schweik Fast Horn Parts
hey, french horn or brass players-
I’d; imagine that playing Rapid Double-tounged 16th notes, on a single pitch, on brass instruments, such as “and a 2 e and 3 e and a 4” repeating at QUARTER NOTE = between 164 and 184, is kinda hard, right?
that’s what they do in the end of the first act of the Robert Kurka Opera THE GOOD SOLDIER SCHWEIK. very very very very fun! and in between, the timpani play “sol do”! haha! yet, in this instance, super cool.
sadly, the version which is this fast ain’t on line. (chicago opera theatre.) buy it.

Rare Aesthetic LaMonte Young and Conlon Nancarrow
ok, so, RARE THINGS that I know of musically, so rare they are even hard to Obtain copies of:
1. The Well Tuned Piano by Lamonte Young (I got one)
2. that Conlon Nancarrow prepared piano box set, with liner notes by James Tenney. (I no got, I want.)
I’ve not actually “checked” just now if either of these are tough to obtain; my information is based on previous attempts to find them, the situation might have changed
anything else belong on this list?
Einstein on the Beach by Philip Glass WOULD… but you can buy it, easily.

it’s a combo of liking things because they are stimulating enough, but also because they are not-normal, not-typical as well….

surely I would be so intolerant of different opinions than mine, if I didn’t take everything personally…
hypocrite dish-ers unable to take it
I’ve known a couple people who
1. had a distinctive personality trait, usually something socially kinda not all that appropriate in the amount of it they had (I like such things.)
2. I would befriend them due to their extreme nature, so to speak, and
3. take up what they did as something I did. perhaps. (this goes back at least as far as 1998)
4. eventually, they would “criticize” ME for being too that way…. when the only reason I was bringing it out was due to their cue.
needless to say, regardless of what is true, (simple misunderstanding, people change, I was immature, or they were, whatever)
I’m gonna start the analysis of it with “they were (censored) losers.”
I thought they were cool until I revealed that there thing was just an act.
or whatever.
