David Rhodes is a Los Angeles composer, pianist, and teacher. Before completing his MFA in the California Institute of the Arts Performer-Composer program, Mr. Rhodes worked with an experimental theater company in San Francisco as resident composer and music director, where he received exemplary reviews for his “mesmerizing” and “ethereal” scores for theater and short films.
He has worked closely with such composers as David Crumb, Rob Kyr, Michael Jon Fink, Wolfgang von Schweinitz and Ulrich Krieger, with piano studies under Victor Steinhardt and Vicky Ray. David’s music has been performed in San Francisco, New York, Brazil, and Los Angeles where he continues to compose for ensembles of mixed instrumentation and film.
He splits his time between practicing (standard and contemporary repertoire), composing (commercial, film, and stage music), and running his studio/music school, Rhodes School of Music. The school features dedicated CalArts alums who offer lessons on piano, voice, guitar, strings, brass, and woodwinds to over 80 regular students on Larchmont Blvd.
